I bumped into a topic of copyright infringement on one of the forums I frequently visit. I know how that person feels and I’m sorry for him because I faced the same situation before. Now, I wrote this issue back in 2005 but I think it’s time for me to share with my subscribers again. If you read this before, consider it as a revision for you. If you see it for the first time, take note that this issue might be one of yours in the future. Here’s what I wrote in August 2005.

__________
I’ve posted my new discovery of my website being illegally copied by an irresponsible person and I hope the information I give you down below will help you if you face the same situation in the future.

Many thanks to a few friends at “How To Corp” forum for helping me out on this one.

Special thanks to Michael Mayhew for sending out the link to this pdf file.

You can find out how you can handle copyright issue by yourself by reading the file above.

A few days later…

I’ve managed to contact the owner of the website who illegally copied the content of my MLMLessons.com after a few internet buddies of mine help me trace him.

As soon as I got the phone number of that person, I dialed and surprised him with my warning.

This is what I said…

“Ring… Ring”

The culprit: Hello.

Me: Is this ____ (culprit’s name)

The culprit: Yes.

Me: This is Zamri Nanyan from MLMLessons.com and you illegally copied the content of MLMLessons.com on your website, _____.com. I’ve emailed you several times and you did not reply.

The culprit: Which site are you referring to?

Me: It’s ________.com. I’m telling you that this is a serious offence and I want you to either change the contents of that website or shut it down in the next 2 hours. I’m taking all the necessary action to resolve this issue.

The culprit: OK

Then, I immediately hung up without leaving him a chance to defend himself or to give reasons to me. Sure, in the next 2 hours, his website was redirected to www.blogger.com and I’m just glad that this issue has been resolved without getting a lawyer involved.

Before, I’ve wasted many hours to track this person as he used fake contact info to register his domain name and webhosting server. Luckily, a friend of mine, Alvin Cheong of AsianOnlineRecipe.com managed to track this guy from Google cached page, which incidently had an info which led to his real mailing address and phone number.

Without Alvin’s help, I would probably be looking for this person.

Thanks so much, Alvin.
