While it’s common for the Americans to use credit cards to make online purchases, that does not mean that people from other countries are comfortable in giving out credit card info when buying from a website.

I live in Malaysia and based on a recent survey, there is still a large percentage of people not feeling comfortable in making an order online. Although the percentage might predictably increase higher in the next few years, you don’t want to wait until that time arrives.

So, if you have a product to sell online, take necessary action to increase your sales.

1. Make sure that you have other payment methods besides credit cards. You can accept payments by PayPal, Check or even direct deposit to your bank account. These will increase probability of potential buyers making a purchase on your website.

2. Stress on your website that every order from you is being held in strict confidentiality and the buyer’s payment by credit card is secured. Putting a logo of Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and others will further improve the believability of your potential buyers that you are indirectly associated with these big names.

3. use trusted third party payment processors such as ClickBank, 2Checkout, iBill and WorldPay. People trust these names and they don’t have any problems giving out credit card info to these big companies when it comes to ordering online.

4. Give a guarantee that if your potential buyers are not happy with the purchase, they can ask for a refund. It will take the risks off of your potential buyers, and they’ll think that they are safe with the products and the order (by credit card) as well.

5. Put up some testimonials of your customers because testimonials is more than giving credibility to your products. If your potential buyers can see that others have bought from you, they’ll think that it’s safe for them to order your product.

Other than a few tips above, there are many more that you can do such as building your own name branding and credibility on the internet. If people refer you more from their websites, you gain trust from them and also your potential buyers.

After all, it’s all about trust in giving out details of your credit card when making a purchase online.
